My philosophy of life that I have developed is that....EVERYONE...no matter how stupid or dumb....EVERYONE knows at least one thing you don't....so ask them some questions, learn about them, and try to learn something for yourself :)

Re: The art of small talk?

People usually like to talk about themselves, thir family, their kids, boat, dog, business..whatever..
I will listen to how they express themselves and watch their body language..Some guys sound sad talking about their wife...
But PERK up and are excited to talk about their boat! lol..
Since I speak publicly often in seminars and in crowds of people I have known for less than 2 minutes..The one guaranteed comment to them is..

Wow, that sounds interesting, tell me more..
They will..and will be happy to have a new friend

Re: The art of small talk?

I have a small self storage facility as a sideline to the many other things I do. It is amazing how with very little prompting people will open up or often pour out there lives. Sometimes I think I should get paid a counciling fee.

I know I like to listen more than talk. I have learned somewhere that you can learn something from anyone. With some you have to filter a lot of ****. But I have learned things from almost all people I talk to. Even if it's the fact that I never want to talk to them again.

Knowledge is power, and you don't learn from talking, asking questions yes. Just like how the OP started this thread.
