Re: The best make/model

OMG well Ford or Chevy or Dodge ........... There is no correct answer.

Normally we suggest a motor that parts are available for, has local support to you and within your budget.

Your question is difficult to answer and depends on the circumstances. Here are some examples of similar questions that you could have asked:

What is the best color?
Which breast is better? Left or right?
What is your favorite finger?
What is your favorite chromosome?
What is the best fruit?

Re: The best make/model

So what is best make model and year of outboard
Motor ?

Why do you ask? Are you considering the purchase of a boat/motor or perhaps repowering an existing boat? Many factors can influence your "best" choice. What kind of boat; what size; where will you operate it; what will be your primary operating activities? Give us more information along these lines and you'll get lots of opinions...we love to spend other people's money:D

Re: The best make/model

There aren't any motors that are "best" but there are plenty of motors that are worse than others.

Except, of course, the 1964 evinrude fastwin 18 HP. That's the best motor.

Yes, those fastwin's were nice.

No question. The family of 3-4.5HP outboards that includes the Johnson JW and JH series and the sister Evinrudes. My favorite is the 1957 Johnson JW-13.

Best outboards ever made by anyone. Johnson FDs are a close second.

Re: The best make/model

Reality Check --- O.K. I bought a 2011 Merc 4 stroke EFI 60 last year after buiding a few too many V-6 150's and one 2+2 100 Mariner. I wanted the Yami but the dealer talked me into the Merc, plus I had a soft spot in my heart for them. His reasoning was they were easy to get parts for and there were a lot of trained Merc mechanics. Humm, now that I think about it I wonder why that matters if the engine is that good.. Well, anyway, the Yami is a respectable motor but I'm happy with the Merc.
