I finally filled my buck tag. Saturday afternoon, in a heavy wind, I spotted a large buck working a scrape. I shot him and he went about 50 yards. When I got to him, I was totally ecstatic to see a very heavy beamed, long tined, symetrical 8 pointer! Green scored at 131-1/8 (grossed) and weighed in at 200 pounds even. This is my largest buck ever, and is a real trophy for NH.

Re: the buck is hangin'

This past weeeknd was Youth weekend (15 years old and younger) here in Mississippi. Took my boy, The Swamptater, and he connected. Had a big doe come out on him late in the morning and he shot her. He said she dropped right in her tracks bout 45 yards from his stand. While he was watching her to make sure she was down a buck came out and started his way. It was an 11 point, green scored 145 with 235 body weight. When he came back to the camp he said "I need help loading these deer I got." I pretty much thought he was pulling my leg and told him so. When he said "Daddy I swear I've got a doe and an 11 point on the ground. I went over to him and told him to hold out his hands and sure enough they were still shaking like leaves. I'm really proud of him.

Rifle season in now a thing of the past here. The hunting crew had a couple nice nine points and and a five that has the frame of a ten. Several nice does also but none that were huge. We have been after a buck that will proabably go 170's but nobody got a shot. We will still persue him in early december muzzeloader season. I am good to go on doe meat (3) for the winter and looking forward to a few crispy mornings looking for this brute. Also found a denned bear this past week and gonna take the kids out to see it this week. All in all a good season but but nothing real memorable cept the bear and less than optimum weather. Good Luck.

neumanns, I'm curious...why is rifle hunting a thing of the past there or is rifle season just over now? We will have gun w/dog season until December 1st then it goes to primitive weapons for two weeks, then gun w/o dog season opens again until the last week in January then the last week of January is back to primitive weapon. Then its all over but the rabbit hunting.

omc.. you cant see it in the picture but there is<br />a coleman stove running and the tenderloins were<br />fabulous. <br />These animals were taken near the Battle River,<br />and they spend most of there time in the alfalfa<br />fields, fattening up for the winter. Yumm

Wikelam, it was the 4th day of our rifle season (remington 7400 in 30.06). My bow season (which is still going on), has been pretty unproductive. I did get a nice bear, but the deer patterns are really messed up from the lack of acorns and beechnuts we are experiencing this year. Great job on your bow season though. I'd like to try recurve or longbow hunting, a little more primitive than the hi-tech compound I shoot.

Sorry this so late gaugeguy but Congrats I can taste it already. Pa season open in 2 weeks and I can't wait have doe tag and hoping to see a buck. Might be tough with the 3 point rule but the game comm. is saying they are haveing success with the new antler restrictions.<br /><br />1 question though any worries about Chronic Wasting Disease?

I read about the antler restrictions in PA, that makes it alot tougher on you guys. Here a buck has to have just a single antler over 3". We are worried about CWD. Fish and Game has put restrictions on bringing dead animals from affected states and Canada into NH. The meat is OK I guess, you just cant bring bones or the brain back. I'm not sure how far east it has gotten yet, I thought it was still west of the muddy river.
