I knew I was in trouble when the reply came back yesterday... "PB Blaster??? Heat??? Gimme some details"

What kind of a backyard hacker doesn't know what PB Blaster is, or understand what "put some heat to it" means?? And this guy wants to tear into his sterndrive??

Anyhoo...

Let's hear what some of my brother hackers keep handy in the toolshed for tackling those tough DIY jobs.

I'll start... PB Blaster, MAP torch, and of course... DUCT TAPE!!! :D

My personal favorites, the BFH and BFS.

No, I won't explain.

Also, don't forget the vise-grips.

10-4 on the BFH! A big piece of pipe seems to come in handy also. My favorite is the sawzall, I can destroy or customize with it.

The good old "Blue Tip Wrench" and buzz box are life savers along with a manual impact tool and a nut splitter (no not the female type) Oh and ya can't forget the 4 1/2" disc grinder.

Pocket knife. I'm surprised at all the young fellas that don't carry one.

Also, aerosol carb cleaner. Used for removing sitcky stuff, wasp nests, clean grease from hands. I'm told it'll also clean carbs.

Probably because we get accussed of carrying a weapon or something........honestly would u want some of the young people today carrying a blade.

Its funny you mention it though, my grandpa and both his uncles WILL ALWAYS have a pocket knife on them.

Always have, always will - unless I'm flying.

No 4-way tire iron is complete without a pair of 2 1/2' long iron pipes  . And yes, I have had to stand and bounce while pulling up on the other pipe before :p . That particular bit of fun was in 2001, on an '89 Buick, and my guess was the last time the wheel was off the car, it was under the 3 year 36k mile warranty  .

Whenever I tackle any sort of automotive, or motor related repair, I make sure I have these handy.

Ya, ya, I know... tried to be patient but.... Unlike others up there tend to do, I didn't say a word.

I see Heycod has padded his way past 3000 now. ;)

And I totally agree on the magnet or the jaws... One rule of thumb... if you EVER drop a nut, bolt, washer, whatever while working on your boat motor... It WILL fall through to the farthest unreachable point in the bilge. Yes Heycod, I do tend to drop things, only when I mess with the boat motor.

Can't do this to a '97 or newer. The studs will break off first!

Re: The "Hacker" Toolbox

If you can get your hands on a busted computer hard drive, tear it open and pull out the magnets. These things are strong enough to direct a nut/bolt/beer bottle cap, etc. through the hull of a boat to a more suitable fetching spot.

Stick 'em to the bottom of a metal plate with a ring/eye bolted to it and drag it around piers and ramps. You'd be surprised at the lures, keys, sunglasses, discarded murder weapons and what-nots you can drag out of a lake with these things.

spots

And don't forget the BFR for when the rusted bolt snaps and you bang your nuckles on something unforgiving... ;)
