Re: The modification gripe thread!
I've modified many things. All with success. But I've lost money on every darn one of them.
Examples:
1. Year: 2004. Mod: 1960 Austin-Healey; replaced the engine and trans with a 289 Ford and close-ratio top-loader. Breathed on the engine to get it to over 350 HP and replaced the fenders with fiberglass versions. Plus many other little things. Thing ran wonderfully and was VERY fast.
Investment: $14,000.00.
Sold for: $10,000.00.
2. Year: 1976. Mod: Old Volkswagen frame with a Trans-Vair kit holding a 1967 180 HP Turbo-charged Corvair engine and 4 speed trans. Later made a lattice-work body support structure and sheet Aluminum body. Thing went like a scalded cat and handled great.
Investment: about $3,000.00.
Sold for: $1,800.00.
3. Year: 1960. Mod: 1939 Ford Custom Coupe with a Chrysler "B" series Hemi and a 1948 Pontiac 3 speed transmission. Very fast in straight line but a bit dicey in the corners under acceleration.
Investment: old Mauser rifle and about $300.00.
Sold for: $100.00.
There have been quite a few others but now I'm older and don't want any more "Fun" jobs.
