Re: The Old Holiday

Today I was able to get some painting done before the rains came. It only rained a little bit, but by the time it did, the paint had several hours to dry.

I did leave a space around where the seats are to go, but I'm not entirely convinced that's the way to go. I may just paint the whole deck depending upon how much paint I will need. I do have a bit less than a quart so I think I may do that tomorrow.

Here's a shot near the stern. I'm not sure what you'd call the area in front of the transom, but that tray came out nicely too.

...I did the top surface there in case I were to step on it. As I said before, the original paint was a spatter paint with a texture to it but this is a little more aggressive.

I also managed to put some hardware on the old gal, bt alas no pics. Tomorrow is another day.
Be careful,
John

Re: The Old Holiday

Hey Rick,
Thanks...Ahh the Splashwell. I don't really have a clue when it comes to all of this, I'm just trying to keep up with you guys!
That last coat of paint has to be encoraging huh? I look at mine and I think I see some spots where I could touch it up a bit. The jury is still out on whether or not I do. I probably will as I don't want to do this again any time soon. Not on this one anyway!
I'll have more pics tomorrow, but then it's off to Maryland/W Virginia for a wedding.

Re: The Old Holiday

Rick,
It would appear that you're moving right along.
I'm hoping to get the nautical terms down, as the ocean is only about forty five minutes from here...
You guys have all been a great help by the way.
Well today I did finish painting the areas under the "splashwell" and the bow. I figured what the heck it was a nice finish besides, the color was hard to match with some type of deck paint. Before I did that however I did finish cleaning up the wiring and then I got the steps on the gunwales and put on the cleats.
I cleaned up the old fuel tank and while I thought about painting it, I decided to leave it alone. It's dark gray anyway and should be a nice contrast to the deck.
As far as pictures go, you'll have to forgive me as I didn't have the time to up load them. My computer is as slow as molasses...
I will be off to Maryland for tomorrow and Saturday. I have to be back at work on Monday so the next chance I'll have to work on the old gal will be Tuesday. We shall see. Until then, be careful and have fun,
John

...okay here's the wiring behind the dash...

I kept the grounds over to the left and the power to the right. Even further to the right is a block for the lights, they come off of the heavy duty three way switch.

...a little better picture of the small gauge cluster in front of the control...

Re: The Old Holiday

Here's a shot of the control. I did have to splice two wires coming out from it. They were the tachometer and the trim gauge. So far I haven't seen the tach work as I haven't had the engine running...

After the wiring was finished (for the most part) I did in fact finish all of the deck with the Durabak. I think it was a good idea.

Next I got some of the hardware installed on the gunwales...

Those are all the pics for now. Today I was able to get the other seat assembled and more of the hardware installed. I put the caps on the gunwales and the bow. I'll get some shots of those as well.
I did paint the fuel tank with the same stone paint as I did the inside of the hull. There is a primer for the plastic that I used before the stone paint. It's a nice match and I'll have a shot or two of that as well.

Tomorrow I'll install the seats and the frame for the canopy and then see if I can get the motor in the tub and fire it up. We shall see.
Be careful,
John

Thanks Jim,
Once I'm sure all the electrical items work, I'll seal the connections with the "liquid tape" and that ought to take care of them.

61Holiday that dash is looking great and I appreciate the quick lesson for us rookies on wiring under the dash it looks like that's not the first time you've done that:D

I just hooked up a fishfinder to my battery with one 4 amp fuse and I was proud of myself for that:)

Rick,
I'm not so sure about that. Overtime is flying around here and I'm in the middle of another thirty eight hours. Not sure if I can get out tomorrow either. We shall see... Thanks for the comment on the wiring. I know there are specific colors attached to each type of device, but for now most of the grounds are black and the power either red or blue.

Huron Angler,

...boy I screwed that reply up. Anyway, I meant to say no it's not the first time doing that, but I was under the gun of lousy weather and not enough time. I do however have plans to get it just right when I'm sure it all works. Maybe a project for the Fall or Spring.
Thanks again,
John

Kev,
Thanks for the nice words. Let me know what I can help with. I'm certainly no expert though...
