We were tent camping at our favorite lake this summer. Had fabulous weather for the first 4 days we were there. The fifth day, Friday, dawned bright and clear but soon clouds were coming over the mountains and we could hear thunder in the distance. In a short time there was a heavy rain coming down so we crawled into the tent for shelter since there was no trees nearby to allow us to string up a tarp.

As the storm came nearer, there were some close strikes within a mile or so (using the thousand-one, thousand two method.......) and we counted our blessings. All of a sudden there was a flash/bang with the light and sound indistinguishable in time. Hmmmmmm, close one. Eventually the rain did stop and we left what little protection the tent offered and took a tour of the nicely treed camp ground ?? 28 camp sites plus a common picnic/tenting area in a provincial park about the size of three foot ball fields. We were camped at one end of the camp ground loop and when we got to the other side of the loop this is what we saw??..

Glad I wasn't using the pot at the time.

Google earth says that it was about 1/8th mile from our campsite but the guy who put out the fire was camped only about 40 feet away.

I'll do it.
HOLY CRAP!
I hope there was another outhouse.
I'm sure someone had to use it after that experience.

yup. Two others just like it - except for the damage and one, one hole'r as a spare. Problem was, power was out that ran the water system for the flush toilets. Got the power back the next day. Some people were in hardship mode!!

good thing it was a flush type, or the methane would have blown it sky high.
