Worth every penny !!!!
For those of you with younger children......enjoy every second, even the tough times as you will never get that time back again. Ours are all grown up now and it is still great but I will always treasure the memories and photos of their childhoods.

My kids make great spotters when I'm water skiing. I'm still working on his driving skills. He's 11 and so far he's doing great.

Money is a lousy measurement in life anyway. People think it's a good way to keep score..that's a joke. I didn't even know I had emotions until I had kids. I have never once thought about the cost......that's just laughable

Cost from birth to 18??

My boys are 28 and 26. Daughter is 37.

Who said the money out stops at 18??;)

I raised them to be independent, but ol' dad has stepped in on a few occasions to help them out in a bind. I figure I've got about 20K in outstanding "loans" (gifts) to them in total.

Like the sounds of some of you I also had my two oldest when I was very young. There now 24 and 26 and then came along my surprise who is now 12 soon to be 13. Through all of the trials and tributes I still would do it all over again. :)

This is the best post I have read. I have two children, my daughter is 4 years and my son is 6 months old. I could not imagine life without them:)

Re: The price of children

I became a father for the first time at the age of 51. At first, it was a whirlwind of excitement and then the reality of it set in. I admit to feeling a little scared, wondering if I was going to have the energy for it all.

What a great post! I too am an older father, I'm 50, my stepson is 17 and my son is 3! I considered myself past the age of having children but now that I have them I wouldn't go back.

Seems like there are plenty of us late starters here. I'll turn 51 in early Jan and my girls are 6 and 2. I have a great time with them and there's nothing that can replace the "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy" chorus that greets me when I get home. I often wish I had started earlier, but glad to finally have the chance...

Yup kids are the best at aggravating the crap out of you, and melting your heart at the same time. I have three, 10yo step daughter, 9 yo step son, and 3 yo son. Couldn't do without them.

I also got a little bit of a late start (first when I was 38, second at 41) and I can't imagine life without them. Here's my two first mates:

Wow, $160K is a bargin according to our local news station. The figure they gave for around here, less college, was $348K and some change. :(

I'm 52 and have two out of three daughters (ages 33, 16, and 13) still at home. I love my girls dearly but there there are far too many hormones in house for me. Only have $135K to go before I have to drop some real money sending them to school.

WOW I love it!! Ths definately touched a spot in my heart!! My children are all the wealth we will ever need!!! We have DS16, DD13, DS5, DS1!! We are the wealthiest people we know!

I worked with very selfish lady who was childless by design. She was in a 15+ year marriage, but he got "fixed" early on. They never wanted children because thier finances were much more important to them. She always flaunted her stocks, and vacations, and personal trainers, and cleaning ladies. She never understood why I choose to have "so many" children because "wow how rich would you be if you didnt have so many children." My answer to her was how rich would you be if you DID!!!!! I'll bet she pondered that question for weeks, because I dont think she liked me too much after that one! I'll be emailing this to her! :)

Isn't it all worth it when you don't have to cut the grass or shovel the snow anymore? :p

Or chop the wood.:D

We have 4 boys (16, 13, 10 & 6) and they're great. Even thought they think dad "always be's mean to me" in the words of the 6yo.

We just got our first foster child. She's 3 months old.

This was a great post. Thanks for sharing.

Re: The price of children

Great post!!! I have two, a son and step-daughter (she has a great dad but, she's been with me since she was 4 and I consider her mine). My son has lived with me for about six years. They're both graduating in June. Mom and I are as proud as we can be, but it's sad and overwhelming with them both graduating at the same time!

The wife and I got just back from a 5 day trip to Cozumel on Monday
Our main topic of conversation was how much we missed our babies
Tuesday i was off so we took the boat to the river for a few hours
I had more fun sitting on the sand bar eating McDonalds and watching them explore than i did in mexico!!

Re: The price of children

No kids of my own but I have a niece and two nephews so I get to be the cool aunt:cool::D
You know like help them sneak chocolate and cookies, dig for earthworms, fish, teach them how to drive the boat,
It does come with responsibility though I have to do my best to save them from the mommy and daddy monsters, and while I know it's futile I try my best
jamie

Agreed.. I strive to be the "cool" Aunt whenever I can. Two nieces three nephews, and a couple young distant cousins. Still enjoying the fact I can get them all excited and sugared up then send them home lol!!

Great post though, will have to forward to my family and friends!!
