Re: The right electric pump for inflating

Got a K-pump K-100 and topped off the chambers from 2.0 psi to 4.0 psi in about 5 mins. Almost got the big K-400 thinking I needed the volume but the K-100 will be fine.

Really like the Kwik Check gauge. There's a .5 pound difference with the boat supplied gauge and the Kwik Check gauge though (the Kwik Check reads lower).

If you got the original Zodiac yellow gauge, the one that rotates 3 color dial internally, inflate sib to middle green portion in shade, make a reading on the Kwik gauge and compare. Almost all brand gauges won't read the same, there's always a minimum 0.5 or slight higher psi difference, so lower 3.0 psi reading will be better than a higher one specially in plain summer when in doubt of correct reading and wallet peace of mind. Assume the pressure reading difference is due to one reading 15 psi and the other probably 10/12 psi ?

Happy Boating

Re: The right electric pump for inflating

Got the cheap 12v electric motor at Walmart ($14.00) but couldn't get it to inflate at all. Had plenty of air blowing, possibly even more than the K-Pump I thought but might at well had my lips around the valve. I taped the spare adapter from the K-Pump on it and it should have worked. I don't get it...

It has a deflate mode on it too but I doubt that is going to work either which I'd almost rather have because it's not the same boat I took out of the box...IT GREW!!!! Had to use a different boat bag for it.

I dont know why you have ploblem thats the same pump I have .Blows up my FH360 in 10 min all 5 chambers I do have to use the dubble action hand pump to get the pressure right.Check your valves some thing is wrong or the pump is bad

The K pump looks great, but as packrat mentioned, in some boats it would be a lot easier to have a flexible hose to connect to the valve.

I am surprised nobody mentioned using a shop-vac when at home to inflate and deflate a boat. It works great!

I still use the Zodiac supplied foot pump with low pressure and high pressure chambers, and I am quite satisfied with it.

Do you have a shop vac? I use mine and inflate the tubes, then I top off with a Bravo 10 foot pump. It's really quick and the shop vac poses no danger of overinflating.

i have the Coleman rechargeable pump an it works great, but i did need to pull out the outer ring of the boston valve away from the bottom of the boat to get the adapter to seat until it was semi inflated, then i let go and it remained seated with a little pressure and finished inflating.

I got this...attractive price. I have yet to try it out, but I hope it does the job (or at least 90% of it)

Of course I will keep a manual pump with me at all times. That's just common sense.

I'd prefer if it had a direct battery connection lead rather than a cigarette lighter connection, but I suppose I can always splice one on in its place.

Keep us posted on how performs, if you have an inflatable with air deck I'm interested if you can get it to the wright pressure

I don't have an airdeck unfortunately. I did use it to inflate some tires to 30lbs/psi today and it did it amazingly fast. It wasn't even warm, granted inflating the tires took about 20 seconds each. The true test will be on my inflatable which hopefully comes early this week!

Re: The right electric pump for inflating

Used the pump I listed above. It inflates, but needs to be topped off with the foot pump. I would estimate 8-10 pumps to get the chambers fully inflated with the foot pump. It inflates at a decent speed, but the pump seems to get warm pretty fast. They say it can be used for 10 minutes, then let rest for 10 minutes. I didn't use it that long because it felt too warm to me. The redeeming factor is that you can attach it to the valve and let it inflate while doing other things.

If you still can return it do it or keep it just for your car and get one of this http://www.walmart.com/ip/Coleman-120V-Air-Pump-with-Hose/5634288 buy it on line and go to the store to pick it up is cheaper this way and an inverter, they have also a 12V one but less powerful and they don't get hot being just a blower, and yes you have to top off with the hand pump. This pumps can be used as a deflater also.

Re: The right electric pump for inflating

I have a leaky zodiac MkV HD that I picked up cheap and I use this to fill it:Kwik Tek Airhead High Pressure Air Pump (12-Volt) http://www.amazon.com/Kwik-Tek-Airh...92KA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1313230702&sr=8-2

It's the best pump I've ever had for the price. It will fill my fairly flat MkV (19foot boat) in a couple minutes. Requires just a small top off to be extra firm and I use a kiteboard hand pump. Amazon has the best price. The pump is very loud, but amazing.

Re: The right electric pump for inflating

We recently purchased a Zodiac with an air floor. After sweating out trying to get the floor pressure, we bought a Bravo BST 12 HP which we just tried out. Love it.

After ordering the Bravo, saw the K pump/inexpensive electric pump combination. Could have saved some money evidently.

A question - how do you make the connection to a shop vac? That would work well I believe, and save wear on the expensive Bravo.
