Re: The right to Protest

The following goes WAY beyond a person's right to protest:

Protesters plan to stop war shipments

Antiwar group seeks to shut port of Oakland with picket line

By Tom Curry
MSNBC

April 3 - Shifting protests against the war in Iraq to a new level, a San Francisco group says that it will set up a picket line Monday to block supplies being shipped to U.S. forces fighting in Iraq. The group, Direct Action to Stop the War, said will attempt to "shut down the war merchants" at the port of Oakland by urging members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union to not cross the picket line.

Hi LadyFish,

If that story is true and they try to stop the shipments, then they deserve to prosecuted for obstructing the government and treason.

Just who do these people think they are.

I'll tell you one thing, their not Americans.

Sounds more like terroist activity.

It looks like they are more interested in their single-sided viewpoint than the lives of American soldiers.
For that, I for one, have no sympathy for what is about to happen to them.

I read the title of the thread and decided to NOT GO NEAR this one BUT, ...curiosity finally got the better of me. So here I am.

djohn, kenny, spinner,

YOU NAILED IT. Right to speech -OK, Right to break "Civil" laws without consequence? I've re-read the 1st,3 more times,it AINT THERE.

If the nut cases are going to tie up social resources and impede ANY comerce, comercial OR military,...
well then.... just lock 'em up & throw away the CELL?
And then, a fine large enough to both cover the expence incured in detaining them AND enough to make the bone-heads think about it before they lay down in the streets or block a port ever again.

These guys wont EVER get it, but as long as they can be convinced not to screw it up for everybody else, we all win.

If you folks had your way, Rosa Parks would have been arrested, George Wallace would have been cannonized as a saint, and Trent Lott would have been in charge of the South.

You can't make an omlet without breaking a few eggs, I am afraid.

Re: The right to Protest

What amazes me is that this happened on April 3rd, why wasn't it all over the news?

The liberal media didn't mind spewing its crap on 60 minutes last night. I don't know if any of you watched it, but it was maddening. The entire show was anti-war, anti-Bush. It just seems when the liberals do something wrong it dossen't get on the news.

my pappy wasn't the brightest bulb. I guess that sez somethin for me. The ol' boy did impart these words of wisdom (re:San Fran) to me when i was but a young lad.

"When the world was young, the good lord picked up North America by the east coast and shook it. Everything that was loose rolled to the west coast. And it has stayed that way to this very day."

MAYBE,... the ol' boy was on to something.

PLy,

wuss rong in yer hed? u sayin' that breakin civil law is OK? Trent Lot????? Who was he speaking too when he made the statement? Man you godda get yer facts right BEFORE puttin yer fut in it.

Plywoody, the program was completely slanted. Accuracy in facts is one thing, but they made it clear where they stand on the war which is anti-war. Reporters, journalists and programs like 60 minutes should report the facts and let us form our own opinion.

This is one of the things about the media that upsets me most. Whether its pro-war or anti-war, "just report the facts Jack".

Ladyfish,

save your breath! Ply likes gettin under folks skin. It's the main reason i was avoiding this thread. Facts & Reason mean NOTHING to him & there's no-turnin'-on-the-lights.

Before retreadin' the same ol ground, i'm oudda here before things get shall we say, "heated", again.
Good Luck to your and you blood preasure if you decide to stick around.

as for me,
I'm oudda here

Have a nice day ;)

LadyFish,

Plywoody doesn't know what facts are.

He is anti-war and anti-Bush and no matter what happens he will still be lead by his "made in his head retoric".

So let him, I found its easier just to ignore him and follow facts.

Sorry if I overstepped my boundaries here, but enough is enough, get a life plywoody.

Re: The right to Protest

So Plywoody, you think it a good idea and expression of civil rights to interfere with the supply line to our fighting troops? Success there would put our American men and women in jeapordy. Where do you draw the line man? That's an act of war, not protest. A boycott is a protest. Once you stray outside the constitution, you become anti american.

They should have had the shotguns loaded up with rock salt.

That would have moved them.

How dare they block supplies to our fighting forces.

They need to take a ride with M.O.A.B.

Yea, but now the dock workers are refusing to work, claiming that the police were "too harsh".

Sorry some of them got in the way and injured, but there is a thing called collateral damage, and it happens no matter where someone breaks the law!

And that is unfortunate.

But if these protestors were not trying to block supplies going to our son's and daughters fighting so bravely for the protestors rights, it never would have happened.

From what I understand the S.F. Police were using rubber bullets.

Maybe they need to learn how to shoot straight.
