Re: The tow of shame!

I got back-to-back tows a few weeks ago as well.

Luckily, both times, people were kind enough to come help. Which is a good thing, because I don't know anybody else with a boat.

The first time, we barely made it out of the cove, and had to be towed back in by a jet-ski. Not a wave-runner, an actual jet ski!

Talk about embarrassing!

I wasn't anything but grateful though.

Got to ask, when you say check the water pump shafts every year do you mean pulling the drive off and apart or can you check them by the play between the prop and ball gears?

The shafts that go thru the water pump. There are 2. In the upper unit lower part.

You don't have to remove the whole out drive. Just the lower and put the lower with the cable still attached on a table next to the out drive.

If with motor off, on the trailer, drive fully down, gear engaged you turn the prop and the prop does not move means the shaft didn't strip YET.
If you turn the prop and both ball gears move, the coupler went.

No way to check them any other way but to pull the water pump.

Got to do that anyway every 3 years if used in salt water. To replace the impeller.

It's a merc motor i put in place of the omc motor. Was actually easy just time consuming.

Keep making fun of bayliners but remember

Those are the boats that are running and saving your buts each time....

Whats that tell you about bayliners......

I pulled in a Sea Ray with my Bayliner cruiser last summer!

your friend wouldnt like you ragging on his bayliner...next time he says 8 hours you may actually be waiting 16 hours for him, he may decide to work overtime that day lol.

So let me get this right - did you change out only the engine and not the whole setup? Are you still running the stringer outdrive?

Re: The tow of shame!

Just the motor. and i pulled just the motor left the bell housing in place, didn't have to pull the drive.

Just tie up the drive so it don't drop and bind the shaft. Easy if you lift the drive halfway and tie it up or place chair or something under it so it don't drop.

Old sub your better off posting a new thread cause more people will read it, and the mods get pissed, if we keep posting to a old thread.

They are right old threads are for gaining knowledge and not really meant to be posted to.

haha, me and a buddy of mine was out riding around on a sea-doo(couch). We stopped in a hollow to swim and a boat was there trying to get started. They called us over for some help and for a tow, it wasnt far but I didnt really want to do it with a jet-ski. Luckily someone else pulled in with a boat but hey, we got a good look at the girls on the boat. :D
