There are these two spots in my hull...

...that are about dime size. They are located on the transom of the boat, one above the water line, the other, just below it. The one looks like it was hit or bumped by something, and cracked the fiberglass hull.... not very big. I took a screw driver, to see if there was any rot or anything behind it, and the screwdriver wouldn't even penetrate the hole... it was solid behind it.

The other one is just below the water line, but it's solid behind it aswell. I picked up some clear epoxy at the boat store, to fill them in. It seems to have worked well. However, I have a brother-in-law that's insisting that the hull is junk. The entire hull looks like new. The floor has NO soft-spots whatsoever. I've looked all over for signs of the hull being compromised.... I honestly can't find any.

I just bought the boat... and he doesn't have one. I'm smelling a little bit of envy, with a touch of jealousy. He doesn't have any boat-building, or boat repairing background, but he knows everything.... (you know the type?)

He's currently working on my engine (rebuilding it), and has told everyone that we both know -- the boat hull is in 'bad shape.'

Am I gonna sink? I have to believe that there's fiberglass hulls out there that have been repaired that were in worse shape than mine -- I don't think two dime size spots are indicative of a Titanic mis-hap, are they?

No, I think you'll be fine. If you just have a couple of small blisters or dents in the gel coat it is not a point to worry about. You did the right thing by repairing them. However the next time you want to repair a ding or dent I highly recommend this product:http://www.marinetex.com/

If your are concerned about any wetness or rot in your floor or transom, once you have that MarineTex in hand, you can test for this with a cordless drill and a 1/4 inch drill bit.

In an inconspicuous part of the transom, the bilge for example, on the INSIDE of the boat, drill in, make sure you don't drill all the way through. If the wood shavings that come out are dry and wood colored, then no problems. If the wood is Wet or dark brown to black - rotted then you have a problem.

Once you are done testing, fill and seal the test holes with MarineTex putty.

I know... I'm and idiot.

The reason he's working on my engine is he's so obsessive-compulsive about things being absolutely perfect. That's why he's so 'concerened' about the two little spots on the hull... it doesn't look factory.

My dad recently had someone do some work on his work truck. New plug wires. My brother-in-law said to take the truck back to him. The plug wires didn't look like they did when they came from the factory.

I guess if I were to have a choice of someone working on my engine, I'd rather want someone who's a stickler for details vs. someone who just doesn't give a crap.

He problably likes your boat and if he tells you it is junk and you go to get rid of it I bet he'd be the first person to take it off your hands.
