Earlier this summer I purchased an old 1956 10 HP Evinrude model 10012. The fellow said it was running but could not get the tank to pump (older 2 line tank). I saw the problem right away that the line was rotten. Seller wanted $100 he took $80.
The motor was in exceptionally good shape as far as looking. I took the carb off and cleaned it and tested it in a barrel to see if it pumped water, which it did. Put it on a boat ran fine for about 5 min and then ran on only 1 cylinder. New plugs still only 1 cylinder. I now have purchased 2 new coils and 2 sets of points and condensors. Yet to put these on.
Earlier this week I put an ad on Kijiji (similar to Craigslist) for any old 1956 or 57 Evinrude or Johnson for future parts etc. Got a call from a fellow 300 miles away saying he had an 10 HP Evinrude (he thought about that age) that he wanted to get rid of. He said he was driving to my city today to visit and he would drop it off at my door for nothing.
Well it just arrived 1956 Evinrude model 10012. All intact except for the gas tank. Color little more faded than mine but looks in as good shape.

Hard to beat those old kickers. I have a'54 15 HP rude. Starts very easy cold and usually the first pull warmed up. I only wish my '98 90 HP Force on the toon started as easy. Nothing wrong w/ it, just doesn't start as easy as the old rude.
Congrats on getting the parts motor. I'm sure it'll help you out.

Have the same model motor. Got it started this summer and have had it out on the lake. No problems so far (might need new seals on the lower unit). But it is a great motor. Starts every time without issue. Takes a few pulls when cold, but once warmed up, starts on first or second pull every time.

Enjoy!

I have a 1956 3 Hp and needed a parts motor found one in good shape for $25 but had to dive 60 miles each way to get it. I thought I was very lucky but you my friend are blessed with good luck.

Re: There is a God

Just an update on this motor. The fellow that gave me the motor, last summer, e-mailed me last week and said he found the tank and hose for the Evinrude he gave me . Did I want it to? Sure wasn't hard to say yes. So he dropped off on my driveway. :):):):):):)
