Thermastat

I am working on a Johnson 115h Seahorse and I was fixing a water pump. The boat service person told me I didn't need to put in a Thermastat back in. Is the right,will it blow up the motor or what?

Without a thermostat the engine will not get up to operating temperature and will idle poorly. It is also subject to cold seizing. That happens when the pistons heat up quicker than the surrounding cylinder walls. The piston to wall clearance closes up and you now have a seized engine. If the thermostat wasn't necessary the factory would not have designed it with one.

The motors are designed to run at minimum temperatures, and the tstats help them do that. And they are less costly than a rebuild.

Without the thermostats, you can't produce enough water pressure to COMPLETELY fill the water jackets to ensure proper cooling and WILL experience uneven temperatures throughout the powerhead. I fully agree with F_R on this one. Find a new mechanic!!!
