Told dealer that I wanted to check thermostst and replace- he only sold me part# 436195, which appears to be Vernatherm and Pin.
QUESTIONS:
1. Once I removed the cover and large spring, I can't get the rest of it to budge. I can pull on that center copper/brass piece and the only thing that happens is the large rubber seal just flexes outward and nothing moves. Probably some salt corrosion. Should I just keep pulling and will that make it come out?? I would probably need a new rubber seal then( large round rubber flexing thing that vernatherm inserts into). The manual illustrates someone just lifting it out. Mine won't budge.
2. Is the Vernatherm and Pin the only parts that you would normally replace when servicing the thermostat ? My engine runs a little warm at time, has tripped the power pack before. Water pump appears to work very well. I'm just trying to eliminate this as an issue.

Re: Thermostat - can't get it out

why wouldnt your dealer just order u a complete thermostat thats the ideal thing to do esp when its a DIY job i wouldnt be playing around with it just return what u have and ask them for a full thermostat kit

Re: Thermostat - can't get it out

I called the Evinrude dealer, says there is no "kit" . All pieces have to be purchased seperately. The rubber diaphram is what else I'll probably need. Can ayone tell me the preferred method for removing the pieces when they wont budge ?

just buy all the thermostat in peices but complete and rebuild a new thermostat insted of trying to salvage an old thermostat

More specifically, the last part of my question is how do I pry it out ? Once the cover is removed, should I continue pulling on the brass part which in turn is pulling on the diaphram ? The diaphram seems really stuck. Should I just pull until it all comes apart ?
