I pulled the housing on this motor, to inspect/replace the thermostats, and now I'm going to put it all back together with new gaskets. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like there was some kind of sealant used in conjunction with the old gasket. My manual doesn't specify, it says that some do and some don't need sealant. So does my motor (1991 225TLRP) need sealant or not, and if so, what should I use exactly?

I usually put a light coating of sealant on that gasket only because if the plate is a little distorted it will seal it up. use any marine sealant thats made to with stand water.
