Thermostat housing spacer

Is there a trick to removing the thermostat housing spacer above the thermostat? I don't want to damage anything trying to get it out. It's a Mercruiser 5.7L (seawater system). Alpha 1 Gen II sterndrive.

no tricks for that one - after you remove corosion

Do you have a serial number, or even a year will help..... Some..... there are several different styles of housings.
