Re: Thermostat problems help!!!!!

Chances are the obstruction (if there is one) was not in the water pump. There's minimal areas for it to get clogged. You may have had a bad water pump that is moving enough water without load to keep it cool, but not enough under load. Do you have a heat exchanger system or does it just circulate raw water? Check for obstructions in the heat exchanger (rust flakes, old impeller vanes, etc). Are the hoses collapsing during runs? Check the inside of the hoses to see if they are delaminating. This causes water to fill inbetween the layers, causing a large bubble to form...sometimes on the inside, thus reducing flow.

Let us know how it went.

No, There is no heat exchanger, Just raw water.
The hoses are not collapsed.

I will check inside the hoses tomorrow.

Re: Thermostat problems help!!!!!

Hi, I have been reading all mourning trying to figure out what is wrong with my engine and still am coming up short.

When I installed the impeller I didn't rotate the drive shaft in a clockwise direction to get the impeller into the housing, instead I bent the blade by hand and forced the impeller in the housing in a counter clock direction.

I was told that I didn't matter the direction that it was installed because it an alpha 1 gen 1 and it would just flip itself.

How do I tell if it is an alpha 1 gen 1.

Please help.

IT won't make a difference with the Alpha impellers, they will flip over the right direction when you start the engine. Had you had a Gen II drive, they wouldn't flip over.

The Gen II drives didn't come out till 91, and you can't put a Gen II drive on a Gen I transom shield.

Also, with a Gen II drive, it has a SS impeller housing and the impeller has 6 vanes and are each an inch or so long.
