Thermostat

On the late 69 and early70's 50 HP mercury do these early models have a thermostat? <br />one person at the shop says NO where another says there is who do I believe,do not want to pay big bucks to find there is none as the second person says the thermostat is stuck in the open position.any help would be greatly appreciated

I had a 1974 50hp Merc and it didn't have a thermostat either.<br /><br />Cheers<br />Mike

try www.mercruiserparts.com/ you can get diagrams of you motor parts and a listing of their names. i looked quick at late 60's early 70's merc 500's and didn't see a thermostat.
