Re: They say "Don't get a Bayliner" so what should I get??
here is my two cents on the whole bayliner thing ...

if you are a johnny on the spot, go gettum sorta guy that doesnt mind hard work, bayliners represent a tremendous VALUE for the money ... but from what ive read, there is a catch (aint there always a catch?)

aside from the garage or barn stored creampuff, odds are good your bayliner will need lots of work, as will most any neglected 15 plus year old boat

so you pour the money and work into your bayliner, and once repaired, you have a boat the equal of any boat out there, cause you have rebuilt it to YOUR specs, wood is sealed, glass is laid in place, your new laminated plywood transom will be stronger than any new one, the floor will last 20 years before anything will happen to it, even with lousy maintenence, if you want a good boat for low bucks, buy a larger beat up bayliner, and run it til you feel youve gotten your moneys worth

and then the catch hits

bayliners have a bad rep, they have low resale value, so if you are going to buy it and bump it up 4 feet in a year or two, go with a different brand

if you arent mechanically inclined, or want a turn key boat, look elsewhere, unless you find a cream puff, but KEEP it a creampuff, keep her covered, keep the weather out of her, youll be fine
