thinking of buying this motor 35 johnson

i am goin to look at this motor for my 16' startcraft sf, are there any common probems with this model i should look out for, what do you think its worth(assuming it runs good)

here, if it looks as good in person, $1,000 - 1,200.

standard things to look out for. compression check 120 and equal, spark both cylingers, no water lower unit oil. hear it run, best to take for a test drive.

yeah he is asking less then half that much, im not sure if he don't know any better or if there maybe a problem, i figure if it runs(even poorly) it may be worth it. i just did no if this model had any infamos problems

My neighbor sold the same motor a few years newer in running condition for $100 a few weeks ago.

If it's a '76 or '77, beware. They will overheat and burn up if you run it in weedy waters. We had to quit selling them for that reason. Our lakes resemble hayfieds. But if you don't have weeds, it should be ok. Look at the powerhead for signs of overheating (discolored paint).

I've a 35 Johnson just like that on my 16' Starcraft, makes a great setup. As blimp said - great motor, simple to work on, easy to get parts for. Again, location plays a part in price -- around here $400-$600 would be about right.

thanks guys, i never went to look at the motor, the owner said it was for a 17'' transom, my sf 16 lw has a 20'' transom so i didn't buy it, i almost left the house without measreing my boat! i couldn't belive it! my heart was broken:( but im sure i will find "my" motor
