I did already, but here it is again...

Albacore take more skill, they are easy to hook, but extremly difficult to get them to the boat, let alone in the boat.

They are great at straightining out almost any hook on the market, and getting away long before you get a chance to see 'em.

Stripped Bass are just good eatin!

Re: This is a Troll....................

Hammering down on the gator are ya..The musky is one of the hardest freshwater fins to fish for. Its takes alot of time to even entice one to take a liking to a lure..Many don't have the knowledge, patience or money that it takes to pursue these warriors.

I fish for all fins but if one every experiences the thrill of a having a 30 lb Musky happen upon your pole life will never be the same for all other fins. The folks up north refer to bass as trash fish(in fun)when comparing them to the warrior. I use 30lb test and a lunker pole and reel where with the bass you can use an 6lb test and a shamoo fishn pole with a bobber and catch em all day.

My lures can reach 12" in length and cost 15 bucks or more..Now before we all get in a hissy here I am just funnin. No I did not catch the below fish but tell me what part your anatomy you would sacrifice to be given a chance at this Magnificent warrior..Where is Mellowyellow,Flathead.Bubbakat a few others out there to help me out here. I am out numbered 100 to 1 and don't stand not a chance...

I have to agree with Gonfishn. I've caught just about every type of freshwater fish, but have never caught the mighty gator fish. Gonfishn is going to learn me how this spring.

SS

ok, being accused of being on the fence earlier...
I take musky! at 41yrs. old I have caught a total
of 2 in my lifetime, both about 28"... and my 5yr
old son has landed a 5lb smallmouth on a 1/2 worm.
my wife also caught a 47" northern on a worm, so
not fair to group them together.
maybe better ? is; what is the hardest fish to catch?

Re: This is a Troll....................

yep, I like to brag about my bass fishing "skill", but my kids catch bass too. I've never caught a musky, only seen 1 caught. So just in pure numbers alone, catching the musky takes much more skill. Dang trolls :D

You got me on this one gonfishn, You know I really tried for some tiger musky this fall but could not hook up :( It takes skill alright and lots of time put in. That being said I always hook a couple tigers every year while bass fishin,, nothing like that monster above though.

Though I still think it takes a skillful angler to bring in bass on artificial lures consistently. :D

Re: This is a Troll....................

Not even a question. Musky takes much more skill than bass. Give a 7 year old a spinnerbait and rod, from shore and almost anyone can catch bass.
I've diligently tried for the elusive musky for 2 years and have only boated a couple small ones.
When I get bored, bass fishing picks up the pace. Maybe I have more skill when it comes to bass....
D

OK, Ill bite here!!

I used to tounament Bass fish! With just a little knowledge a decent angler can go out on a good Bass lake and catch a few Bass. (WHEN THE BITE IS ON) However when you are in a tournament situaltion and you have to catch fish ALL DAY, or in Bad weather, its a different story all together!! Thats where the skill comes in! You have to really be tuned in as you might only get a strike once an hour and you better be ready. No looking around at the scenery, My partner and I used to jump on each other if we saw each other looking at a boat going by if our line was in the water!

I vote for Bass fishing!! Tournament style!! :D

LubeDude

Re: This is a Troll....................

I will give you my perspective. You have to encompass the entire experience. When I go musky fishing we usually have to travel a good distance, and have to sleep in tents or in cabins. Mornings are usually cool and the coffee bitter. The boys have a particular look of ugliness, that comes from a razor left at home. A shower is a baseball hat and clothing that would make the modern man take up tennis. Load up the 79' ford with the 17 foot mirro craft borrowed from my dad with something less than a 15hp outboard with a real outboard name like mercury or johnson. (Someone slipped a 9.9hp honda in there last year.) With a little luck the lake will have a ramp otherwise you muscle it into the water by hand, and row out far enough to start the outboard, by hand.

You pick your spot and work it for hours. By noon the dog has leaked twice, and dumped once in the boat and your hands are freezing from the light rain/mist in the air. You use a bait that would be considered a legal sized bass and a steel leader. If you are lucky enough to hook one you better throw out the anchor as it can and will pull your boat around the lake. Your reel will probably need to be replaced if it is a trophy cuz your drag will be shot. If you get it near the boat be careful to keep your cool, if you fall in the dammn thing might bite you in the a$$. Once you are ready to land it be very aware of what you are doing or your hand will look like $2.57 worth of ground meat. Thats right big sharp teeth. Your arms will be sore and you will be tired but you will be one of the few who landed the toughest fish pound for pound anywhere.

When you return to camp the tall blonde waiting for you comes with a screw cap and your reward is the envy of your group.

Bass fishing requires bout 100K in truck, trailer and boat. Nothing less than a 200hp outboard will be allowed as you might be laughed off the lake. You arrive the night before at the local Hilton, and knock back a couple of steaks and crown royal's before retiring to your suite and a whirlpool. The next morning gormet coffee and maybe a grand slam breakfast if you are slumming it. You will have on the full Bass masters costume with B.A.S.S. on your shirt, jacket, pants, underwear, socks and shoes and a pair of the ugliest sunglasses $250 can buy. Off to the ramp by 9am and launch your boat before 15 to 20 jealous men, who are compelled to make a comment as to how "cool" your boat is. After a breif discussion as to the weight to horsepower ratio, you are off with a rooster tail three times as long as the boat, skimming the water at a cool 75mph. The light is playing wonderfully off the gaudy flaked paint job and the sponser decals are in full glory. On the way you fire up the side sonor, Gps, Radio, Fishfinder, and autopilot.

When you arrive at your designated fishing spot the 50hp trolling motor with voice command drops down and deploys. You delicately select your SPINNER and tie a mighty knot in the 6lb test line. You begin to cast. After a 15 or 20 minutes you land your first fish. No net needed, just lift him in the boat. Pop your thumb in this mouth and remove the saftey pin, oops hook and cast away. That first one was sure a fighter it took almost 2 minutes to get him in the boat. By noon you have 3-4 in the box and you are hungry.

You head back to the marina/country club for a lite lunch and conversation. It is always appropriate to run at WOT as someone may be watching. Get to the marina and make sure to revvv the engine good and hard to make sure, well I don't know why they do that. Tip the dock boy a buck to tie up, wash down, refuel, clean the windshield, and replinish the ice, and get rid of any blood or scales that might be lingering around. You go back to the club and enjoy your gyro and red bull then head back out to the great unknown of a 1500 acre lake.

When the day is over you radio ahead for the photographers and put on a clean sponser hat. It has been on the warm side but that is ok, raccoon eyes are a fashion statement, and record your hard days work. Get your pictures taken grab a few local girls and go in for a massage and a comp'd meal.

Just in Fun Guys!

Re: This is a Troll....................

I've caught more Musky/ Northern while Bass fishing than I've caught Bass while Pike fishing... so what's that say?

All 3 of these species hit more out of anger than hunger. Why else would the biggest, ugliest, shiniest, most colorful lure does the trick?

I caught a 12# Musky on a Stink bait worm once, fishing for Channel Cat in 3 ft of water... as soon as I casted, KABOOM!

Re: This is a Troll....................

Without a doubt.. Muskies.

Have only had one run-in with one and I remember it to this day.

We used to own a lakefront house on a point between two coves. In the one cove you could drag bass out all day.. no challenge at all. In the second cove it was as if it was devoid of life. Me, taking that as a challenge, still had to fish it. Well, one day I'm working a topwater plug around the brush along the shoreline, and a hole just opened in the water and the plug dissapeared. Finally! I think. Well, I worked that darn fish for I know a good half an hour, and everytime I think I'm getting close, he's just leisurely dragging line back off the reel in these long, lazy runs. I swear to god he was toying with me.

Finally I get him to within about 10 feet of the dock, and let me tell ya, short of a couple of huge cats, it was the biggest darn freshwater fish I'd ever seen.

Off he goes about 40 feet, head comes out of the water, flips it once, and the plug goes sailing over my head. Darn!

Only it wasn't the plug. it was HALF the plug, he had broken it dead in the middle.

Let me tell ya, I threw everything in that cove after that except dynamite until the day we sold the house, and never again saw him. I know now why there were no fish in that cove, he was big enough to have a 2lb largemouth as a snack!

-Roger

This has been amusing, and the correct answer is...Muskie, bass, northern, in that order.

Agreed neumanns-northerns pretty easy.

But very tasty imo. Boil 'em-like PM lobster. Bake and deep fry very good too-ya can avoid the bones (Y) if carefull fileting and eating.

I sure do enjoy bluegill (especialy fresh from icefishing) fried in marange/seasoned flour breading. ;)

-sorry to track off topic-just before dinner, better go and raid kitchen--- ;)

Bass? BASS??

If I get tired of working for a musky, I will relax and catch a few bass. Little skill, less work.

They're just musky bait, after all. :D

Re: This is a Troll....................

None of these even are in the same league with a steelhead caught out of a northwest Washington State river.

Nothing like beating your pole against a tree to knock the ice out of the guides, and then setting the hook just when you feel something unusual as the bait lightly bounces on the bottom in your drift.

Most of the time, there is nothing there--once in a while you permanently hook a rock or a submerged tree limb-and once in a while, on a rare occasion the water explodes in front of you, and it is the thrill of a lifetime.

And had you not set the hook, you would have gone home swearing you never had a single bite!
