Locates are not always 100% either.

That's the truth!

In our utility, the locate team was headed up by a rather pompous fellow who claimed pin-point accuracy 100% of the time. When one of my projects required the installation of a new cable at one of our generating stations that would cross 3 existing cables (two telephone cables and a critical control cable) Mr. Perfect supervised the locate himself. The first scoop of the backhoe, well away from the marked area, came up with BOTH telephone cables but fortunately missed the control cable. Biting into the control cable would have taken the power exports to Ontario off-line. Needless to say, after enduring Mr. Perfect's rants for years, I couldn't stop laughing.

Ontario didn't need that power anyway

I had that happen as a resident in Florida. All of the utilitie were buried and someone cut a similar telco bundle. I was out of phone service for a couple of days.

The offending party was ...... Florida Power & Light!

Well that's one job out of the way. I thought I would add one more picture of us cutting in the new cable.

I work for the local telco and this happens a lot to our plant in Florida. NoCuts will do a locate and here comes someone with a backhoe thinking alll those little flags mean dig here!!! They usually nail a fist full fibers and that's one expensive mistake. The offending party gets billed for time and materials and on top of that they get billed for the lost revenue for the duration of the outage they caused. Keep in mind each strand of glass can carry up to an OC192.

Blue flag- dig at least 8 feet down here.
Orange flag- dig at least 4 feet down here
Yellow flag- dig at least 3 feet down here.
White flag- do not did anywhere near here!!!!:D;)
