Hope someone can help.
I was given a 89 Yamaha 90 hp on a boat that had a 703 controller , the boat was scrap and I managed to find a center console I'm trying to hook up. I purchased a 704 controller and but took the wiring harness from the 703 and removed the key, kill switch and choke and installed them in the dash of the new boat. I removed the Yamaha gauges from the old boat and replaced the ones that were on the new boat. Everything more or less works except the tach. Can someone guide me on how to test the tach signal at the engine to see that it is putting out? and confirm which wires I should be using at the dash, there seems to be a couple of extras. Also is there a way to test the tach to make sure it is working and would a merc tach work in its place if need be?
