Throttle Assembly / Power Trim

I have the Throttle Assembly with the Power Trim button built into the throttle handle, with, Up, Down, and Trailer buttons. The down works. The trailer button works, but the up does not work. Obviously I can lift the trim with the trailer button, but in the manual it says not to use that button for trimming it up.

Is it a cheap fix, and how can I fix it?

Do I really need to fix it, or can I just use the trailer button?

Again, what drive and year are you talking about.

test the trim limit switch. its the round sender on the portside of the gimbal ring. test procedures are in the manual but its just an on/off switch to prevent inadverdant and potentially dangerous over trim by the operator. to trim/tilt past the mechanical safe limit of the gimbal you must change to a different button.

Your getting all the right advice! I would add one single piece that I have found critical.

As a bit of preventive maintenance I would remove every wire and connection one at a time and lightly sand the connection. Use a piece of plumbers cloth. Do the battery terminals and all connections going to post type connectors. Corrosion over time kills the tightest and best looking connection without you knowing it.

After you have cleaned, re-installed each one, you can lightly coat each connection with grease or LPS.

If you have any wires that have scotch clips (those are splice connectors that just snap on around wires) remove them and solder the wires. Moisture is a wires enemy.

You will be amazed at what will "start" working with the corrct mainenance.

Bob

Are you checking this in the driveway? How low did you put the drive before trying to go up with the up/down switch. Try lowering the drive more, if you need to lower the front of your trailer and lower the drive until the skeg almost hits the ground. Then try the upswitch. I am just asking because I did the same thing, though mine was broke, turns out I just did not have it low enough.

Re: Throttle Assembly / Power Trim

I will do the wire maintenance some time this week probably. And yes, I have tested this in the driveway before :)

Also, what kind of damage can occur if it is trimmed up too much? And I hate to sound like a newbie, but I truly am, but what is / where is the gimbal ring?

Is there anywhere that someone has uploaded a FSM for my motor and or the Alpha I sterdrive?

Um. Thats only the first seven pages, and it stops at the table of contents. I looked at the URL and it says 6covr3.pdf, which would lead me to beleive that is for the cover, and that there is a separate PDF file for either the remainder, or one for each chapter of the FSM.

Thanks.
