I have started a project on my 17 foot xpress bass boat. I have ripped out all of the carpet (which was coming up anyways), bought a new control/throttle box, bought new throttle cables (one of mine snapped), and new throttle cable connectors for my type/yr motor.

i have sanded all of the glue/paint off of my boat so i can put down some TuffCoat from Cabelas (i will be applying this on Friday), but i have never installed a throttle box or cables. Any helpful tips, tricks, hints, or do's and don't's would be greatly appreciated.

one of the old cables was broken at the motor. the other cable came loose from a 3/4 nut. i took the entire cable and controll box off of the boat with the old cables still attached to the old box.

As TD said take your time with it. Adjustments to the cables may be needed once you get the boat hull finished and cables attached to the control box/motor. That style control box may have the mount bolts on the inside of the box, if so say all you got to do is mount the box and attach the cables, which will require taking the box apart. This can be a tricky procedure. You could also take the time to move the controls forward or back some if needed to make it more comfortable to operate if you needed to. Keep track of all your parts that you take out of that control box and keep in mind where and how those parts go.

Re: Throttle Box, Cables, ETC

i have taken off the old control box and cables. i have connected the old cables. i realized afterwards that i needed an external key switch for the new box (the key was in the old box, OMC box). i went out and bought a new key switch and the diagram is pretty fool proof.

Heres where things get crazy, there was a group of wires which connected to the back of the old control box (OMC box) that ran up to the Tach. there is no plug on the new control box for this, am i missing something? is there a special harness i am missing?
