I am in the process of repowering my 1990 sundancer with a fresh built 7.4. I just about have everything hooked back up but the one problem I'm having is with the throttle bracket. My old motor had a spread bore intake and carb on it. The new one is a square bore intake and carb. Now my bracket is a tad bit to short. Anyone know of a place where I can get a new bracket?

Thing about it is I'm pretty sure there is some sort of a barrel nut adjustment attached to the cable

Bottom right hand corner of the pic is a bracket which comes with. Your installing after market manifold and carb, so you need to use after market stuff and so hillbilly or red neck engineering to get it to bolt up. Your not going to find something made by Merc to fit what your putting together. You might be able to find something from Hardin marine or IMCO to make something, but then again just takes more money

If the bracket will work in the position of your picture, I would probably make an adapter out of a thin plate shaped like a suitcase handle.
Each end would bolt up to the carburetor studs and the it would have two holes I could bolt the original bracket.

The Holley bracket works, however will eventually turn into a bunch of rust. Eddie Marine has annodized aluminum versions

you can still use that one. one hole will line up . what you need to do is :
remove the rear nuts, install a spacer , say 3.8ths, install the bracket. measure the length from the other stud to the bracket hole, using 3/8ths flat stock
drill one hole for the manifold stud and tap the other hole where the bracket would go for a 3/8 x 24 bolt

all your doing is raising it 3/8ths of an inch, cable and adjuster will still work

On a secondary note, I'm assuming for an electric choke I hook up the red wire to the positive terminal on the coil and the black to a ground?

that bracket already has the stud for the barrel your not changing that. remove both nuts, install a 3/8ths spacer on one manifold studs, install; the bracket and reinstall the nut. on the other stud your going to fabricate a length of 3/8 ths x 3/4 wide flat stock. drill a clearance hole for the stud and drill and tap another hole for a bolt for the other end of the bracket

Ok I think I got one made up out of a piece of 1/8" aluminum flat stock. My other question is on the electric choke I'm assuming I hook the red wire to the positive terminal on the coil and the black wire to a ground screw on the carb?
Also do I hook the black wire from the back of the distributor to an engine ground bolt?

Yes red choke wire needs 12 v + off the coil supply when ignition is on, both grounds need to go to a good ground. On the throttle bracket - what carb are you using? I just went from a mercarb to a edelbrock during a repower, I bought an OEM mercruiser throttle bracket ($38) originally for a older mercruiser with a webber 4 bbl. Fits perfect and also came with mountings for my starter solenoid and 50 amp breaker originally mounted to my mercarb throttle bracket. It also looks good compared to the universal bracket supplied with my engine. If you are using a Holley maybe a Volvo bracket might fit as I think hey use holleys a lot.

Hi I'm using a edelbrock victor jr intake with a edelbrock marine carb. Can you send me a pic of what yours looks like?

Looks like they blocked the link. Search for merc 357 alpha engine carb and throttle linkage parts diagram. This lays out the fit up.
