throttle control on 650 merc

I have a 74 Bomber bass boat with a 650 mercury thunderbolt. The throttle cable is rusted as is the steering cable. the throttle cable has started to shred. I have another control unit, the whole thing, and its in good shape. but someone rigged a cutoff switch into the main power cable. it looks alright and the throttle cable is brand new so could i use it? how difficult would it be to swap the whole unit?also how much would a steering cable run me ballpark?

Hi coos<br /> Just replace the rusted cable with the good one. No need to swap out the whole box. I Don't know how much a steering cable wood be. It depends on what type,brand and where you get one. Bottom line is it really doesn't matter what it costs, you need it or you can't play.
