Throttle Control question

Hello all, first post so I would like to first say what a great forum with great info. Been reading and gathering some great intel here :) Now on to my problem. The boat is a 1975 Sea Ray SRV180. The inboard is a GM straight 6 with a outboard Mercruiser. The boat engages forward and reverse fine, but right after it goes into gear there is alot of play in the throttle, I would say 3/4 of the travel does nothing and then the boat finally gets gas.The cable appears to be free and not bound up. It seems to me like something inside the throttle/shifter itself is bad? I did remove the chrome handle and checked the spline on the outside and it is fine. I just purchased the boat a couple of weeks ago and the previous owner said it was fine the last time he used the boat which was 2 seasons ago. The boat was stored indoors that whole time.
Thanks in advance for any help;)

Re: Throttle Control question

Ayuh,... Generally speaking, there's usually abit of dead space in the throttle throw,...
If the carb is going to WOT,+ returning to Idle,...
It's Fine...

No, its not a little bit its at least 75% is dead space and the remaining 25% is usable, and its pretty tough near the end. Basically I have three speeds, Idle 25 and 35mph. I cant finesse the throttle at all.

Re: Throttle Control question

Im guessing something internal on the handle but dont want to tear into it before I know what it might be. (if possible)
