throttle engagement

I have a Yamaha outboard 1998 225 ox hp salt water series. When I attempt to put the throttle in gear,I get no forward motion or backward motion, nothing happens. (Yes I have a propeller!) No alarms come on and the water pump is working, The rpms register increasing rpms but the gears do not engage. There is no griding sound and the propeller does not turn. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check to see if the cable is moving the shift shaft. Often is caused by a shift shaft that has corroded in two.
