Cr2k, I have ran into a couple cables on used boats that people have lubed with some kind of grease, and they were stiff, I cleaned them, they were fine after. I do lube my cables, at the motor end where they are exposed with a cleaner/lube, it prevents corrosion in the salty world my boats live in, and never had a problem. It could also be bound up/routed wrong. So, stiff cables are NOT always worn. And after spending my whole life on boats, rebuilding a few, and also being an ASE Master tech before joining the military, I do know how a cable is made. Maybe you should take a couple apart and check out the lube they have on them from the factory...
