Throttle rebuild question

When I bought my very used 1985 Bayliner w/Force 85 HP O/B, the throttle was inverted. The seller said it was like that when he got the boat & he used it as is. He didn't do much of anything as far as fixing it up in general. The shop where it was stored did a "de winterazation" & he had "fixed" the throttle so it atleast was in the correct position. I've been using it like that for a year or two, but always felt I wasn't getting the full range of movement from the throttle. This year I'm thinking about pulling it apart & just having a look in there to see what I can see. It's the stock throttle & quite simple, it has no tilt/trim on it, just a basic unit. Is there anything I need to watch out for like springs or things poping out when I pull it apart? Never did this before. I'm handy at fixing just about anything on my FJ & around the house so I don't see any real problems. Any advice?

Re: Throttle rebuild question

Why not remove the motor cowling and push the throttle all the way open and see if the carbs are open all the way? If not, it may be an adjustment or a defective control, but until you do the test, you don'e even know if something is broke.

I recommend you post any follow on Q in the Force forum.

It may look siomple but there is alot of stuff in there and it all has to work correctly, just be carefull when you pull it apart, tkae pics if need be to make sure you can get it back togehter right.

I have taken my OMC one apart, I'm just like that, and it was a real bear to get back together right btu if you are at all mechanically inclined have at.

Re: Throttle rebuild question

Didn't even think about testing at the carb end, Thanks, I'll try that first. I don't want to pull it apart if I don't have to, I'll end up missing a lot of on the water days I'm sure.
