One day went to use and it was dead. I checked 2 fuses in back and both were not broke.

Is there a fuse for this or is it a direct connect ? I am gathering info so when I travel down to fix I will be prepared.

Thanks

PS, I have a spare switch as well, but cutting the wire is my last thing I want to do before troubleshooting it correctly.

Thanks all. This site is great QQ

Dave, are you saying trim works from the switch mounted on the motor, but not at the remote?

The leads from the trim motor are SB (sky blue) and LG (light green).

For up SB +, LG -, down is the reverse. These go to the relay. The relay will also have battery voltage and a ground wire.

Test the switch leads as follows: Up position SB and Red will have continuity,
Down Red and LG continuity.

Yes, the tilt works fine from the motor side. I will check the switch when I clickup and down on the colors stated. it looks like a direct wire to the relay. rules out the fuse. so i guess the switch has to be at fault then.. just my guess.

i will check out the manual post aswell.

Thanks all .

Well, I went down and started messing with the relay and the circuit tester and since I was solo, i had to tape the switch. After taping it I turned the bat back on and all of a sudden, the engine tilt started up.. Great...

It worked for a while then it went out just as it came on. It is the lower relay that I was testing for the tilt. Shook it up a bit, tested the fuse.. all good. I was just about to cu the switch and it was still working.

This is a strange one to me. Could be switch or Relay ?

Switch worked for 5 mins w/o hesitation up/down...

Dave, If the trim works consistantly up and down from the motor switch, your problem should be in the remote harness or switch.

The red lead at the remote should have 12 volts.

Thanks all. This is reassuring. Will test the Red and replace the switch.

Re: Throttle Remote tilt switch dead- 2004 Yam 2 Stroke 150

Finally got down and did some troubleshooting.. No power to the remote switch on throttle. I have another switch on the bow of the boat which needed to be changed to the other set of prongs on that switch.

I traced the wire from the remote throttle till it goes into the bildge and from the motor side going into the bilge.

The yamaha black wire with a blue stripe is from the throttle side and somewhere it connects to a fatter yam black wire woth a thin blue stripe.

1. Where do these wires usally tie into each other ? And is there another fuse for it besides next to the relay ?

2. Can I just rig a power connection to the throttle remote and try the up/ down .. Fuses at the relay are tested good

Problem solved... Doh

I got into the boat more tracing the red + wire... would not work jumping it with a power source outside its series.

started pullin the wire from the pass thru to the bildge and lord and behorld, theres the red wire corroded and disconnected. splice in liquid tape and all is good. the placemet of the connecter is foolish on NS. It gets a daily does of saly on rough days...

Anyway, now i can go find some flat water that i can actually use the trim..lol

Thanks all

you got some baster*ized wiring.
from the factory the yamaha 10 pin main harness contains the wiring from the engine to the control box,703, or from the engine to the control box (704) nothing was ever exposed if factory harness's were used.
