Throttle won't stay at WOT position

Now that my '85 Force 85hp is running, I seem to be having trouble with WOT. I can manually hold the throttle all the way down, and GPS says I'm at 32 mph. When I let go of the throttle, it slows down a bit to around 26 mph. Why doesn't it stay at WOT? Is 32 mph at WOT about right for my motor pushing an 18' hull?

Also, is there a way to check the RPM's without installing a tachometer? Is it possible to install a tachometer on this motor, and if so, how much trouble would it be for a novice like myself?

32mph sounds about right.

I think its safer to leave your hand on the shifter anyway. :)

Box is likely worn out.

TMD

I cat believ it, I'm having the same problem. When I'm full at the lever I can manually move the throttle link a quarter of the way. Nothing I can do to fix this I tried It all.
