Tie down protector?

I searched and did not find anything on here.

My buddy and I have the same issue and we are looking for some ideas. Our tie down straps on the back of the boat go under the boat slightly and rub on the seam where the back and side of the boat meet. After trailering for awhile we have had two straps either snap or show sounds of wear. We are using the quick release buckle style tie downs. Anybody else have this issue and if so did you find a resolution?

I've never had that problem, but I can see how it could happen.

You might try wrapping the tie-downs in the area where they contact the transom with some heavy cloth and securing the cloth with safety pins or something. That way, the cloth gets abraded rather than the safety strap.

As a young apprentice in the shipyards, many many years ago, I too encountered the same problem, albeit this was Frigates and not small craft. Yes, sometimes fragile or delicate lifts are called for.

If any edge/corner is chaffing or showing signs of wear and tear then discard it. This is purely for safety reasons.

For a small boat with similar problems then pay a visit to your local carpet shop and ask for some samples of carpets.

Who cares what sample it is?

Wrap that around your Cargo Straps and suffer no deterioration from chaffing.

An old term for this was called parcelling. ie, wrapping within a parcel.
