tiller to drum steering conversion

Hello all,

First post so please excuse if I am in the wrong section with this.

I am thinking of buying this boat

Vintage 1955 Alumacraft Merry 14 in Powerboats & Motorboats | eBay Motors

it has a drum/pulley steering set up with no motor but I have a 1999 25 HP mercury tiller steer motor. I want to know how I could hook this up for steering and throttle/shift controls. If this has been gone over please provide any links.

Yes you could mount your 25 mercury on the boat but, you would need mercury controls. Personally I would dump the old drum steering and install a single cable system. Cool old boat and would look great cleaned up.
