I have a couple of old omc outboard motors - '56 10hp evrinude and a '58 18hp johnson. I receently bought a trailer that is lower than my old trailer. Because of this, when trailering, the motor's skeg is now only about 5-6 inches from the ground whereas before there was about 10-12 inches of ground clearance. With this new trailer, I now need to tilt the motor up when I am towing the boat; but there is no tilt lock on the motor to keep the motor up. I've been able to tow the boat by wedging a 2x2 between the motor mount and the motor's "catch" that locks the motor down. I then strap the motor so it does not bounce around.
But I was wondering if there is a tilt locking mechanism for these smaller motors to keep it in up position?
One note: because the way the trailer is designed, a transom save will not work for the trailer.
