Tilt locks up, turn key to crank and it unlocks

happened a couple times last week. doesn't happen all the time either. could this be electrical or is my tilt/trim showing ware after almost 30 years.

it has to be electrical. hydraulics are not usually intermittent except in the cases of debris. With debris it is randomly intermittent and would not react to switch.

mr ritt, what do you think it could be? this is strange and probably coupled with my cigarette lighter. that works fine but does Not work on my phone charger or portable tv. the lighter works on my air compressor and the lighter itself works.

i'm thinking this electrical problem could possibly correct Both issues, but how do i find the problem?

perhaps the tilt switch is wired to a keyed power source? in which case it shouldn't work at all unless the key is turned on.

yeah this is strange. my tilt switch has always worked and still does work with the key off. once i turn the battery on, all electrical components work; lights, tilt, horn.. etc etc.. the tilt issue just happened for the first time last week. it locked up and in a slight panic, i turned the motor over and the hydraulics started working. oh yeah, the tilt motor has always worked (i can hear it) but the hydraulics didn't until i cranked the motor over... again, it only happened a couple of times. usually works fine but i figure something now is going on.

i appreciate your help. just really "stumped" on this one.

inspect the top seals. if the top seal wears out or if the hole gets wallowed then the piston can get jammed at slight angle and bumping the engine can free it.
