Tilt Problems

Hello, I have hydraulic tilt on my boat. It is a '72 Larson 186 bowrider with an '86 Johnson GT 150. But, when I press the up or down button, it doesn't do anything, but I can here it running, it's just not moving up or down. It worked randomly one time, but now will not. Do you think I need to drain the fluid and refill? What kind of fluid do I need if so? I'm lost when it comes to hydraulic stuff.

(this was in a general section, but I think I was supposed to move it here)

Re: Tilt Problems

Could be low on fluid. I use Dextron ATF in my T&Ts. If you boat when it is really cold you might want to use actual T&T fluid in it. Try filling it up, it might just have a very small leak and is just low on fluid.

Re: Tilt Problems

I would definately start by checking the fluid. Go to your local Jonny/Rude dealer to get some TNT fluid, or in a pinch use ATF Dexron III. Get it fully trimmed out, remove the large slotted screw in the front of the resevoir, top up, cycle the unit 5 to 6 times to the fully trimmed out position, bleeding the air from the system, top up again, cycle. Continue this until you can no longer top up the resevoir. Let us know how you do.

sorry guy, was typing at same time

Re: Tilt Problems

Glad to hear you got it fixed! Just keep an eye on it and try to find the leak that caused it to be low on fluid.
