I was wondering if i can wire a second switch for the tilt and trim into the starter solenoid battery cable, on my 85 force motor. I am putting a switch in the cowling and that is the only place i saw to supply the power to the switch from. Thanks.

Re: Tilt switch

Thank you bond-o i really thought that would be ok since it is where the new systems hook up to for the relays but mine is not the relay setup as of yet i plan on putting them in over the winter to help the power feed. From what rritt told me it makes it easier on the motor some how. Really appreciate the response.

Yea i was planning for that location however they put about 2.5 inches of wood in the area that is in reach to me and i cant get the switch to stay in the 2x4 i tried it in, so it is the cowling for me.

Re: Tilt switch

Aren't the relays for the power tilt & trim under the cowl? You should be able to just tap into the leads from the current switch to the relays; no additional power source needed.

Not sure what would happen if one switch is in the "up" position and the other in the "down" position.

Re: Tilt switch

As i understand it, it would still require a power supply to the new switch

Re: Tilt switch

Ok just a fyi or update. I got the switch mounted in the cowling and wired up. However it does help to have the positive battery cable attached when trying out the switch. Lol i was getting mad that i cut a hole in the cowling and nothing was working after when it was before. Then i remembered i disconnected the positive side terminal to be safe around all the connections. Felt like a complete idiot when i looked over and saw the red just laying loose on the floor. Hope this helps someone.

Of course it would. But so does the other one, so you would just tap into all the wires going to the original switch.

I take it from your last post the new switch works!

Re: Tilt switch

Yes nybo it does now but i have the old 3 wire tilt motor and plan on putting in relays this winter on my down time. I was just trying to get the new switch put in for the weekend so it wasnt bouncing around like it was prior to being mounted. Thanks for the help though i apologize for mis understanding what you were saying. It had been a long day.
