My tilt trim broke three of the five bolts off of the trim cylinder. Replaced the bolts, filled with ATF. Now the cylinder is stuck in the out position and nothing works tilt/trim. Motor runs but nothing moves.

Re: Tilt/Trim 1992 90 hp Force

Does anyone know if ATF is ok to run in this unit? Also is the trim cylinder worth rebuilding if the tilt isnt working?Because i dont think that the tilt shocks are serviceable on this model?

take the trim apart and put it back together carefully. have the oil tubes disconnected from pump manifold and make sure that the piston moves freely as you tighten the ficve bolts. tighten the five bolts a little at a time going caty-corner to ensure even torques.

as long as the rod scraper is okay then your tilt is 99.9% sure to be okay. Your trim cover does not bear any indication of galvanic corrosion so it is even less likely for your tilt ram to have corrosion.

if the trim moves freely but does not lift then you have debris in the pump. the pump will need to be disassembled and flushed out.
