dont fix what isn't broken (dilemma)

my '84 unit works great but i wonder if it might be low on fluid or any other precausion i should take. it does appear to have leaked over the last couple of years. (motor is 85hp, 856X4L)

i'm hesitant to do anything to it, so i don't actually screw something up and Create a problem.

any thoughts are appreciated. thx dave

Re: tilt/trim dilemma?

when it is low on fluid it won't lift high enough. It will hold position but just not as high up as you'd like.

when it needs hydraulic servicing it will drift down. The drift will get worse with age until finally you just can't get it on the trailer.

When the motor needs replacing it just doesn't do anything when you push the button. tapping on the motor lightly with a rubber mallet will eventually break the motor but in the short term it makes the motor run for little while longer.

As long as it is lifting then count your blessings and go catch some fish.
