Hey i have a 1979 mark twain with a 165 I/O.

Last yr the Tilt/trim would not respond at the end of the seson so i just put a ratchet strap on for th winter. Now i have to fix the problem.

When i try to run it the unit wont make any noise pr go up/down. But if i push boath buttons to make it go in trailer mode it will click. Could it just be the selinoid ?

When i try to jump it nothing works but then again mabey im jumping the wrong wires.:p

Any one ?

If nothing works, first thing to check is the fuses. For your vintage boat go to "adults only", #9 Merc Manuals, download Manual #5 for your outdrive, look at the power trim section,it will tell you how to troubleshoot your system. Good luck.

COuld be solinoid or connections. I have the same engine and am in the middle of replacing the hydraulic trim pump. check your connections since it is the easy fix and then troubleshoot. I had a similar issue and it was a bad/frayed wire. I would get a click and then sometimes full function.

Now if you have the instructions on how to rebuild one of these things, that would be great! Good luck on your repair.

You actually need manual #4 for your outdrive, 5 is for a TR.
Section 2 covers troubleshooting, for more details, download manual #6. Much better detail. Still in section 2.
