Tilt/Trim Fluid Type on 1988 Johnson SPL 88 Horsepower

I have a 1988 Johnson 88 Horsepower SPL motor. Lately it has been slow to respond when using the power tilt/trim - I have to hold in the up or down button for 10 or 15 seconds before it raises or lowers, even though the noise starts immediately. I am thinking the fluid is low? What type of fluid should I use?

You can get trim fluid at Walley World or any auto parts store or you can use Dexron II ATF fluid.

Fill it and bleed the PTT unit.

Could be the trim rams moving prematurely due to a sticky tilt tube. Need to operate the switch while watching the 3 rams to see what's happening.
