Tilt / Trim goes up and won't come down

I have a 1981 SeaRay with mercruiser 260 Sterndrive. The tilt trim will bring the drive up but it won't come down from the full up position. If I step on the drive while someone holds the DOWN trim button it will move down. Any suggestions??

Does the pump run when the down circuit is closed?

Yes, The pump does run but the outdrive won't come down without assistance. It will come down once it has started down from the full up position. One note...I changed a leaky hydraulic line this summer and topped off the resevoir. Don't know if this info helps.

Mine does this also. I suspect low fluid, but can't find the fill on my reservior. Anyway, if I raise the outdrive first, it will go down everytime.

If you have the Prestolite power trim pump, here is the section of the service manual that covers testing of the system.<br />You guys really should get service manuals for your engine and drive. I do have the manual and will review it to troubleshoot.
