not through or inside the system. And use one of the "solvents" at a time -- a little trial and error.

And it may turn out to be an assembly issue, particularly if the system was working OK before the new seals.

aaah,... good to know, checked to corrosion on the trim tube...(which is also the steering rod????) also took it all apart again and rechecked...all seemed to be in order, so i flipped the trim sleeves over so the outside orings were toward the top and the little groove fit inside the cover, now it seems to go down fine but not up, also seems to drop down very slowly with no buttons pressed now so not sure what i did there.

It went all the way down the first couple times with the switch but now not moving either direction....and only leaking down an inch or so...I think the sleeves were right the first time.

Is the system full you will need to re-check it also is the manual release closed. There is no fix for saltwater corrosion once it happens every thing is a band-aid. The only true fix is replacement. I always use grease on anything salt-water because it provides a measure water resistance. I have seen oil and other solvents form a goo where as the grease tends to push everything out.

The travel seems right now, though. Guessing the bleeding and refilling process again to correct(?)

Flying Scott...system is full and manual release is tight...the only corrosion I see is on the motor housing but the rest has pretty solid enamel paint on it and does not appear to be covering up corrosion...not ruling it out but nothing jumps out at me either (in my minimal experience)

Yep. Supposed to be in forties again after Saturday. Traverse city area. No white Xmas. Sledding about as bad as summertime.

Nice area (Traverse City). Not sure if there is some snow in the UP, but could check on that if you get bored.

Hey flyingscott -- sure agree it's all pretty much patching, when salt corrosion takes hold. I've even used Coke (the cola) on steering rams and brackets, and it works some. (goo is what god made shop rags for). Agree that marine grease helps protect. It's like driving in snow country, though, salt will get you whatever you do. (I traded salt water for salty roads. Better for boats, anyway, and that's more important.):)

I did not mean to say one way or the other is good or bad. I just always found If I couldn't get it freed up with grease. I was probably on the replacement trail.

Just to clarify, although you have ruled this out, the tilt tube is the outside of where the steering goes through. If that makes any sense.

I finally broke down and took it into the shop, duck season is almost over and wanted to get back out there, while i haven't gotten the boat back yet, the mechanic said I had put the springs and ball bearings in wrong on the bottom of the tilt ram itself, I'm not sure exacatly how they go now, i had put the ball bearings inside the springs and put it back together??? seemed at the time like the logical way as it all went everywhere on disassembly. hopefully that is it though, we shall see.
