I need a hydralic tilt/trim pump for a 1977 Mercury 150HP in line 6 cylinder. The serial number is, 4750570 and it is for a boat mounted pump with twin cylinders. I may need the two cylinders also. Anyone have any ideas's? Thanks Mike Detroit.

Mherr, I have the same motor. You can buy repair kits for the cylinders for about $30 each, from Mercury. Alter market kits may be available. You need a special tool to install the teflon piston seals, and I had no success without it. The last time one of my cylinders failed, I replaced it with a used unit from my local dealer for $60.

I think the pumps are available aftermarket from West Marine or BoatUS. I think they are the ones which have the resevoir and motor in one piece. I would try to find a used unit if possible.

Mherr, Let me add one more piece of info. If the cylinders are leaking around the rods, the Oring that seals that is easily (and cheaply) replaced. I used a 3/4" oring that was laying around my workbench. To install it, I used a boat's gas cap key as a spanner to remove the end cap of the cylinder unit. Then you pull out the inner cylinder (liner) and rod in one piece (without removing the piston from the liner). Then the piston unbolts from the rod, the rod pulls out of the end cap, the new oring is installed and the whole mess reassembled!
