Today I picked up my boat and could not tow it home because I leave the motors all the way down when storing. The yamaha trimed up fine but my 60 horse 1996 mercury just made the noise like it was going to work, but no action. I did losen a screw so I could lift it up manually and some hydrolic fluid came out of my tilt until I retighten the screw. What kind of damamage if any am I looking at. If you need more info. then this just ask Thanks Shmarly

Did it just click when you hit the switch or could you hear the trim motor running? Fluid level all the way up? Battery charged all the way up? Connections tight?

Re: Tilt & Trim, please help!

what you need to do is to follow the wires from your trim motor to the relays undser the cowl. disconnect them and try putting leads directly on positive and negative of your battery. polarity does not matter. see if your motor goes up or doewn, try reversing on battery. if motor moves, it must be somewhere from your trim switch to the relay. <br />if motor does not work, try breaking the motor down. I had the same problem and i just kept brteaking my trim motor down until i was where the electrical leads terminated on the motor. here i found that the connection was broken. i resoldered and my motor trims likeno other.
