Handy Dandy,

I have had that problem before, and on my boat it was a problem with loose wires in the little electrical motor, I would start there.

yes i would check wires, power to and from the switch, an depending on the system you may have relays in the line of wires, those tend to fail.

I took off the cap on the motor. There were two spring-loaded contacts and the plastic casing looked fried. They looked fried due to years of friction. I don't know if this is comon and perhaps unrelated. The contacts, Magnet and wire spool are in tact. I found a site online DB El*ctric that sells new motors. Has anyone used them before?

yes, the motors are okay as long as you give them a waterproof coating, make sure that the field frame is grounded, and keep your anode healthy. The valve bodies ... not so much. They are cheap and they are new. Not much else good to say about them.

The through bolts and sealing washers are not stainless so don't buy unless you are prepared to make them waterproof. For some odd reason, the motors have a high incidence of stray currents and magnetic fields. This causes galvanic corrosion but is largely neutralized by solid ground and healthy anode. If the reservoir is aluminum then the ground should be automatic and all you need to do is keep your anode healthy.

Re: tilt trim rebuild force 125 86

I have a 1990 120 Force with Trim problems. My motor is turning but when under a load it wont go up. When raised manually you can move the lower ram up and down but when you lower the engine it pushes the ram down. I want to rebuild the Valve body but I guess the guy that owned the boat hacked into it so it looks like I am missing some things. Without a diagram or a parts list I am shooting blind here. Does anyone have pictures of a rebuild? or a diagram? I dont want to pay $100 for a new unit when I can rebuild for $20... SOMEONE PLEASE HELP... All these forums are old and the links to pictures dont work. If someone will help me, I will video tape the repair so we can do a youtube video and answer a lot of peoples questions.

if you can move the trim piston by hand when the engine is blocked up then you probably have a blown ring in your trim cylinder.

$100 is a very good price on a new valve body. There is no difference between the $150 and the $250 versions except for support costs and the amount of profit being made. There is only one new valve body being made, they are all the same regardless of where you buy it or how much you pay, and they are all significantly lower in quality and durability than the original.

But still, $100? You should just buy a new one to get your boat on the water and then take your time rebuilding the old one. I think if you put some effort into searching that you will find previous discussions and pictures here on iboats. Properly rebuilt, your old VB will be clearly superior to the new ones.
