Tilt/trim

I have the old type "A" tilt/trim system with the 2 tilt/trim cylinders with the one solenoid. I just bought my first boat so I am a novice at this. According to the manual to test the trim motor I disconnect the black and blue wires on the motor from the solenoids and hook them up to a battery to test them. The problem is I have a blue wire and a green wire. The only black wire I have looks like a ground on top of the case. Does anyone know how I can test this motor to make sure it is working? Also, the wires on my trim limit switch are broken. Does anyone know where I can get a new one? Thanks for your help.

Billy

Re: Tilt/trim

Thanks for your help. I tried that and nothing. It sounds like my motor is bad. I have the whole unit out of the boat. Would that make a difference when it comes to testing?

Billy, It shouldn't matter if the unit is in or out of the boat, you are just trying to make the motor spin. Make sure the +12V is connected to either the blue wire or the green wire and -12V is connected to the black wire.

Thanks for your help. You are talking about the large gauge wires coming out of the motor on top aren't you or are you talking about the smaller gauge green/white, blue/white?
